About Emma
Emma is a queer, non-binary, mixed race (Korean-English) cartoonist, illustrator, and zine maker based in Minneapolis, MN. Through comics, they tell intimate personal stories featuring queer, trans, Black, Indigenous, people of color (QTBIPOC) that embody liberatory frameworks of abolition. Their work aims to capture the challenges of navigating the traumas of our world, while demonstrating how our everyday relational actions are sites for greater healing and transformation.
Emma is a graduate of the Independent Publishing Resource Center's Comics Certificate Program, a current student in the Sequential Artist Network's Graphic Novel Intensive. Emma was a contributing writer for the queer platform Autostraddle in 2019-2020 and has been published in Gladiolus Magazine by Black Josei Press and the Cartoonist for Palestine Anthology. Emma is also a member of the Artists for Radical Imagination cohort as well as a member of the Cartoonists Cooperative.
Emma recently won the Negative Space Short Comics competition for their 8 page comic “I’m Sorry, I Love You.” Read their comic with the finalists here.
Emma invites opportunities to collaborate for panels, workshops, tabling, and collaborations, especially regarding movement art and work from queer and trans / BIPOC folk.
